The Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture is launching the tenth edition of the call for proposals Italian Council with a budget of € 2,500,000.00. Italian Council is the international call for proposals promoted by the DGCC in support of Italian contemporary creativity, strongly committed to the promotion of Italian art and artistic, critical and curatorial research abroad.

Possono presentare domanda di partecipazione:

• museums, public and private bodies; university institutes, foundations, cultural associations, formally constituted committees, and other entities, provided that they are all non-profit-making. The funding requested may not exceed 80% of the total amount, with a ceiling that varies according to the type of project submitted;
• Italian artists, critics and curators, or those with tax residence in Italy, who meet the requirements of the call may only apply for grants to support residencies abroad and support research.

THREE AREAS OF INTERVENTION

1) INTERNATIONAL COMMISSIONING AND ACQUISITION OF NEW WORKS FOR ITALIAN PUBLIC MUSEUMS

Proposals may concern:

• the production - also on the occasion of a residence and/or exhibition - of an artistic project by a living Italian artist and its promotion and enhancement;
• the acquisition, promotion and valorisation of the work of a living or no longer living artist, provided that it was created within the last 50 years.

Lo scopo dell’azione è creare reti internazionali per promuovere e sostenere la produzione italiana di artisti di tutte le generazioni, con particolare attenzione agli artisti emergenti e ai mid-career. Inoltre, attraverso le acquisizioni, il bando permette l’incremento del patrimonio pubblico di arte contemporanea italiana anche con opere prodotte negli ultimi 50 anni.
Le opere prodotte o acquisite vanno a incrementare le collezioni di musei statali, regionali, provinciali e civici italiani. Ogni progetto deve necessariamente prevedere una fase di presentazione del lavoro all’estero, attraverso esposizioni, presentazioni o talk in una istituzione pubblica o privata non profit attiva nell’ambito dell’arte contemporanea.

2. INTERNATIONAL PROMOTION OF ITALIAN ARTISTS, CURATORS AND CRITICS

Proposals may concern:

• Monographic exhibitions at international institutions
  The aim is to give living Italian artists the opportunity to make themselves known or to establish themselves at an international level. In this regard, Italian Council supports exhibition projects at prestigious international venues accredited in the field of contemporary art, also with the possibility of involving Italian critics and curators.
• Participation in international events
  In order to support the Italian presence in the events that periodically take place around the world (e.g. biennials, triennials, festivals, etc.) and which are increasingly becoming an opportunity for international visibility, Italian Council may finance the participation of an Italian artist. The project may also concern the participation in a collateral event of such events, provided that it is included in the official programme.
• Guest curators and collateral events to international acquisitions
  The call supports institutions that invite critics or curators as guest curators of international exhibitions or reviews. Furthermore, the call supports collateral events - presentation exhibitions, publications, public programmes - to the acquisition of works of art by Italian artists by foreign museums.
• International publishing projects
  Through the funding of publishing projects, Italian Council valorizza e promuove a livello internazionale l’arte italiana degli ultimi 50 anni. I progetti editoriali sono un’occasione per make the world aware of artists, protagonists, peculiar events and problems of contemporary Italian art.. Per questo motivo i progetti devono ensure adequate international publishing promotion and dissemination dei libri prodotti (editori internazionali, diffusione in biblioteche specializzate, book launch).

3) TALENT DEVELOPMENT

• Borsa (Grant) per residenze di ricerca abroad
  Finanziare borse per residenze di ricerca presso istituzioni deputate e accreditate al fine di sviluppare professionalmente i talenti è una delle azioni principali di Italian Council. I progetti sono finalizzati ad attività di studio e approfondimento della ricerca e della pratica artistica, critica o curatoriale. Oltre a sviluppare la propria professione, il periodo di ricerca all’estero è una occasione per artisti, curatori e critici di creare contatti e relazioni internazionali.
• Borsa (Grant) per il sostegno alla ricerca di artisti, curatori e critici
  Italian Council supporta progetti mirati allo sviluppo formativo e concettuale e alla evoluzione della ricerca e della pratica artistica, critica e curatoriale in prospettiva internazionale, con particolare agli emergenti. I progetti devono prevedere almeno un momento di restituzione al pubblico della ricerca abroad, presso istituzioni accreditate.

• From 22 June 2021 to 23 July 2021, at 4 p.m. (Italian time) - for Area 2 - International promotion of artists, curators and critics
• From 24 July 2021 to 31 August 2021, at 4 p.m. (Italian time) - for Area 1 - International commissioning and acquisition of works of art

AGGIORNAMENTO 27.07.2021 – SOSTITUZIONE COMMISSARIO

Si comunica che Andrea Lissoni subentra a Marco Scotini nella Commissione selezionatrice in carica per il triennio 2019-2021. La Commissione è pertanto composta da: Fabio De Chirico (Presidente), Andrea Lissoni, Claudio Varagnoli, Bartomeu Marí Ribas, Angela Vettese.
