The ninth edition of Italian Council was extraordinarily well attended, with 204 applications from all over the world.

 

Italian Council sostiene progetti di produzione, promozione, diffusione e conoscenza dell’arte contemporanea italiana nel mondo, secondo tre linee di intervento:

  • Increasing public collections (Area 1)
  • International promotion of artists, curators and critics (Area 2)
  • Talent development (Area 3)

The ninth edition of the call finances 11 new productions, 2 acquisitions of works, 4 monographic exhibitions abroad, 3 participations in international events, 6 international publishing projects and 2 research residencies abroad. With this call for proposals, for the first time 9 grants are being funded to support the international research of artists, curators and critics.

 

AREA 1

 

The projects of production and international promotion of new works to increase public collections, within the framework of the ninth edition of Italian Council, are carried out by:

  • Marco Bagnoli, presented by the Fondazione Museo Montelupo (Montelupo Fiorentino, FI) and destined for the Museo della Ceramica di Montelupo Fiorentino;
  • Fatma Bucak, presented by Kunsthaus Dresden (Germany) and destined for MAMbo, Bologna;
  • Francesca Grilli, presented by the Contemporary Locus association (Bergamo) and destined for the GAMeC in Bergamo;
  • Paolo Icaro, presented by the Municipality of Volterra and destined for the Pinacoteca Civica in Volterra;
  • Claudia Losi, presented by the Regional Directorate of Museums of Marche region and destined for the Rocca Roveresca in Senigallia;
  • Christian Niccoli, presented Momentum gUG (Berlin, Germany) and destined for the MAN in Nuoro;
  • Valerio Rocco Orlando, presented by Nomas Foundation (Rome) and destined for the Museo del Novecento in Milano;
  • Laura Pugno, presented by the a.titolo association (Torino) and destined for the MUSE in Trento;
  • Chiaralice Rizzi and Alessandro Laita, presented by AFOL Metropolitana/CFP Bauer (Milano) and destined for the MUFOCO in Cinisello Balsamo;
  • Alessandro Sciaraffa, presented by Fondazione Torino Musei and destined for the GAM in Torino;
  • Alessandro Sciarroni, presented by ArtHub Asia (Hong Kong) and destined for the MAN in Nuoro.

Works of the following artists are also acquired and promoted:

  • Bruna Esposito, presented by the Associazione Mantellate (Rome) and destined for the Centro per l'Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci di Prato;
  • Michele Sambin, presented by the Circolo del Cinema Ricciotto Canudo (Bisceglie) and destined for the Museo Sigismondo Castromediano in Lecce.

 

AREA 2

 

With regard to the international promotion of artists, curators and critics the following projects are funded:

 

EXHIBITIONS

  • The Emilio Isgrò monographic exhibition at the CAFA (Central Academy of Fine Arts) in Beijing (proposer: Associazione Signum Lab, Milano);
  • The Gaetano Pesce monographic exhibition at the Aspen Museum (Aspen, Colorado, USA);
  • The Paola Pivi monographic exhibition at the Anchorage Museum (Anchorage, Alaska, USA);
  • La monografica di Ilaria Turba presso il Mucem - Musée des civilisations de l'Europe et de Méditerranée (Marsiglia, France).

PARTICIPATION IN INTERNATIONAL EVENTS

  • The participation of Patrizio Di Massimo in the Kathmandu Triennale 2077 (proposer: Siddhartha Art Foundation, Kathmandu, Nepal);
  • The participation of Sissi in the group exhibition L Habit Habité, Villa Bernasconi in Geneva (proposer: Associazione Acrobazie, Palermo);
  • La partecipazione di Giacomo Zaganelli alla Thailand Biennale, Korat 2021 (proponente: The Office of Contemporary Art and Culture, Ministry of Culture, Thailandia).

INTERNATIONAL PUBLICATIONS

  • The publishing project presented by Associazione culturale Il Teatro degli Artisti (Pesaro) dedicated to Eliseo Mattiacci andedited by Lara Conte, Cornelia Mattiacci and Giulia Lotti;
  • The publishing project presented by the Faculté d'Architecture, d'ingénierie architecurale, d'urbanisme (LOCI) - UCLovain (Lovain, Belgium), dedicated to the UFO collective and edited by Beatrice Lampariello, Boris Hamzeian and Andrea Anselmo;
  • The publishing project presented by the Calzolari Foundation (Fossombrone, PU) dedicated to Pier Paolo Calzolari and curated by Denys Zacharopoulos, Andrea Viliani;
  • The publishing project presented by the Foundation The Garden of Daniel Spoerri - Hic Terminus Haeret (Seggiano, GR) edited by Anna Mazzanti;
  • The publishing project presented by MACRO - Museo d'Arte Contemporanea di Roma | Azienda Speciale Palaexpo dedicated to Cinzia Ruggeri and curated by Luca Lo Pinto;
  • The publishing project presented by SAVVY Contemporary (Berlin) and curated by Elena Agudio, Angelica Pesarini, Elena Quintarelli and Chiara Figone.

  • The residency of Alice Pedroletti at ZK/U - Center for Art and Urbanistics, Berlin;
  • The residence of Carola Spadoni at Künstlerhaus Bethanien GmbH, Berlin.

La Commissione di valutazione di Italian Council per il triennio 2019-2021 è presieduta da Fabio De Chirico, Dirigente della Direzione Generale Creatività Contemporanea, ed è composta da: Bartomeu Marí Ribas, critico e curatore, Marco Scotini, critico, curatore e direttore del dipartimento di Arti Visive e Studi Curatoriali della NABA, Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti, Milano; Claudio Varagnoli, architetto e docente all’Università di Chieti; Angela Vettese, storica dell’arte, critica e docente allo IUAV di Venezia.
