>> Project Giornata del Contemporaneo
Saturday 11 December 2021 sees the return of Giornata del Contemporaneo, the great event promoted by AMACI - Associazione dei Musei d'Arte Contemporanea Italiani (Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums), which for seventeen years has involved museums, foundations, public and private institutions, galleries, studios and artists' spaces to recount the vitality of contemporary art in our country.
The seventeenth edition, which takes place nationwide on Saturday 11th December 2021, finally returns in presence, while maintaining a hybrid format that guarantees a dual track to encourage participation with online and offline proposals. The initiative has as its common thread the theme of the ‘performative’ in reference not only to the experience of the performer's corporeity on stage, but above all to the urgency of rethinking new dynamics of interaction with the public through the sharing of space. The theme of the ‘performative’ was identified for its ability to be a catalyst and activator of relationships and actions that can generate new forms of involvement of audiences and increase the social impact of the museum in the community. The associated museums plan and propose, in a coordinated way, activities related to these themes.
After last year's suspension of the ordinary format, caused by the repercussions of the health emergency, the directors of the member museums decided to once again entrust an artist with the creation of the event's guiding image, choosing Armin Linke (Milan, 1966) as the representative for this edition symbolising the restart. The project to involve an internationally renowned Italian artist in the creation of the guiding image for the Giornata del Contemporaneo, which in previous years has been created by Michelangelo Pistoletto (2006), Maurizio Cattelan (2007), Paola Pivi (2008), Luigi Ontani (2009), Stefano Arienti (2010), Giulio Paolini (2011), Francesco Vezzoli (2012), Marzia Migliora (2013), Adrian Paci (2014), Alfredo Pirri (2015), Emilio Isgrò (2016), Liliana Moro (2017), Marcello Maloberti (2018) and Eva Marisaldi (2019).
The image chosen for the 17th Contemporary Day, Jurong Bird Park, is a theatrical staging, a display of elements representing a natural landscape concept. In the modernist architectural fiction, the lush, seemingly spontaneous nature that welcomes the multi-coloured parrots is imbued with natural and artificial elements, starting with the concrete mushroom that mimics the cosy wooden shelter for the birds featured in the photograph. With his unmistakable ability to capture unprecedented aspects of the reality that surrounds us, Linke opens up a profound reflection on the actions of man and on heavily man-made places such as Jurong Bird Park (Singapore), the largest bird park in the world, where Nature is bent to the service of man and his unstoppable desires for appropriation.
Also this year the Giornata del Contemporaneo is extended abroad from Monday 6 to Saturday 11 December 2021 by the diplomatic-consular network of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, composed of Embassies, Consulates and Italian Cultural Institutes. In collaboration with the Directorate-General for the Promotion of the Country System of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and thanks to the support of the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture, the participation of AMACI Directors in the events organised by the foreign network of the Farnesina and by the contemporary art realities active in the countries of reference is encouraged.
The 17th Giornata del Contemporaneo, as in the previous editions, once again proposes various activities and a specific programme of AMACI Museums; initiatives developed in collaboration with the foreign network of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (Embassies, Consulates and Italian Cultural Institutes abroad); the involvement of the network of the Luoghi del Contemporaneopromoted by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture; finally, the proposals of the adhering subjects that, added to the previous ones, make the event capillary, bringing out the widespread network of cultural realities that vigorously promote the different languages of Italian contemporary on the national and international territory.
Testifying to the ever-growing importance of the event and the importance of its role in the national system, this year the Head of State Sergio Mattarella awarded the Giornata del Contemporaneo the Medal of the President of the Italian Republic.
Once again this year the event has the support of the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture, the collaboration of the Directorate-General for the Promotion of the Country System of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the patronage of: Representation in Italy of the European Commission, Italian Chamber of Deputies, Italian Ministry of Culture, Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Conference of Italian Regions and Autonomous Provinces, UPI - Union of Italian Provinces, ANCI - National Association of Italian Municipalities and ICOM Italy.
To participate in the 2021 edition of the Giornata del Contemporaneo, you must register for the event by 10th December using the registration form available at www.amaci.org, which has been completely revamped: the new site and the digital platform dedicated to the event are produced in collaboration with Artshell.

Attualmente è ospite professore all’ISIA Urbino e artista in residenza al Kunsthistorishes Institut in Florenz – Istituto Max Planck. Le opere di Linke sono esposte a livello internazionale. La sua installazione Alpi ha vinto il premio speciale alla Biennale di Architettura di Venezia 2004 e il progetto Image Capital è stato insignito del Kubus.Sparda Art Prize nel 2019.
