The Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture participates with its own institutional space, for the second consecutive year, at the international modern and contemporary art fair Roma Arte in Nuvola (November 22-24, 2024).
It will be an opportunity to present to the public the numerous activities carried out in relation to the promotion and support of contemporary creativity, with a focus on photographic and video productions acquired through some of the most important national and international programs supporting contemporary Italian art: Strategy Photography, Italian Council, PAC – Plan for Contemporary Art.
These are the works that will be displayed at the institutional booth: Piergiorgio Branzi, Reportage del Sud Italia dal 1953 al 1962, a collection of photographs from the archive, acquired by the ICCD – Istituto Centrale per il Catalogo e la Documentazione in Rome, thanks to Strategy Photography 2023; Valentina Medda, The Last Lamentation of 2024, a video commissioned by the ZEIT association and donated to the MAMbo – Museo d’Arte Moderna di Bologna, winner of the 11th edition of Italian Council; Franco Vimercati, Senza titolo (Bottiglie di acqua minerale) of 1975, a photographic work acquired by the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Roma, thanks to PAC2022-2023. The three projects offer an intergenerational dialogue, connecting two historical artists with a younger artist, illustrating different ways of using still photographic images and moving video images, while also addressing anthropological and performative issues, as well as a common reflection on time.
Outside the booth, two monitors will be set up to present a selection of images from Atlante Architettura Contemporanea, a commissioning project carried out in collaboration with MUFOCO – Museo di Fotografia Contemporanea and Triennale Milano, through which ten young authors, selected via public competition, have traveled the entire Italian territory to document over 250 contemporary Italian architectures.
Additionally, there will be an exhibition of publications created both directly by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity and through its contribution, as well as the setup of some interactive stations through which visitors can explore the official website and the web platforms aimed at enhancing contemporary places and visual languages.
