The 17th edition of Premio New York offers two young artists the chance to live for six months in the Big Apple. The initiative is promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Italian Cultural Institute in New York, the Italian Academy for Advanced Studies in America and DGAAP (former acronym of the current Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture). The initiative is reserved for emerging Italian artists with an adequate knowledge of English, who work in the visual arts sector and have at least one solo exhibition to their credit.

 

In addition to airfare, the two winners will receive a monthly stipend of $4,000 (for accommodation and board), as well as a space at the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) in Brooklyn. During their stay, the artists can also participate in a series of initiatives organised by the Italian Cultural Institute of New York and the Italian Academy and attend classes in art history, film theory, visual arts and architecture at Columbia University.

THE WINNERS

 

Ruth Beraha (Milano 1986) e Agostino Iacurci (Foggia 1986) sono i due giovani artisti italiani vincitori della XVII edizione del Premio New York. A entrambi viene offerta la possibilità di trascorrere un periodo di 6 mesi a New York, al fine di sviluppare le proprie capacità creative a contatto con l’ambiente culturale e artistico degli Stati Uniti. Gli artisti selezionati possono partecipare alle attività culturali organizzate dall’Istituto Italiano di Cultura e dall’Italian Academy e assistere, come auditori, ad alcune lezioni presso la Columbia University in storia dell’arte, teoria cinematografica, arti visive e architettura. Alla fine del soggiorno, gli artisti organizzano una mostra delle loro opere presso gli spazi espositivi dell’International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) a Brooklyn.

Press release - 22.10.2020Due to the continuation of the Covid-19 pandemic, the organisers of the New York Prize have regretfully noted the impossibility of guaranteeing the smooth running of both the selection, scheduled for September 2020, and the residencies planned for the period January-June 2021. The DGCC of MiBACT (today MiC) and the DG Promozione del Sistema Paese of MAECI, together with the Italian Academy for Advanced Studies at Columbia University, therefore announce the suspension of the New York Prize for the 2020-21 edition. It will be the responsibility of the organisers to provide further information in this regard..
