To promote Italian creativity in the international context, the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture organizes and supports Italian participation in the International Art and Architecture Exhibitions of La Biennale di Venezia, one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world. The Biennale has, for over a century, been a cutting-edge platform for promoting new artistic trends and represents an unmissable meeting point for the world of culture. The participating countries set up their pavilions with the most interesting national proposals, alternating annually between art and architecture. Our country also has its own space, inaugurated (in its current form) in 2006, at the Tese delle Vergini in the Arsenal: the Italian Pavilion, which occupies 1200 sqm with an additional 900 sqm of outdoor space.
The Italian Pavilion has a Commissioner – a role consistently held by the Director-General for Contemporary Creativity and a Curator, appointed annually by the Minister of Culture.
