Dal 2015, la DGAAP – Direzione Generale Arte e Architettura contemporanee e Periferie urbane (l’attuale Direzione Generale Creatività Contemporanea del Ministero della Cultura) and AMACI – Associazione dei Musei d’Arte Contemporanea Italiani collaborano insieme per la promozione e la valorizzazione dell’arte contemporanea italiana e l’incentivazione della produzione di opere d’arte di giovani talenti. Gli obiettivi richiamati dalle convenzioni stipulate trovano attuazione in due progetti che negli anni si sono affermati quali occasioni di scambio, vivace e dinamico, tra l’arte del nostro tempo e il suo pubblico, sempre più numeroso, diversificato e interessato: la Giornata del Contemporaneo and Museo chiama artista.
The project Museum Calls Artist is fully aligned with the contemporary art promotion policies carried out by the Directorate-General, as it confirms the objective of actively supporting the contemporary art system in our country by commissioning Italian artists each year to produce a new artwork, which can circulate in the associated museums, laying the foundation for the creation and enjoyment of a shared cultural heritage.
When a museum commissions a work from an artist, who is updated and aware of the themes and urgencies of contemporary life, it establishes an osmosis with the artist: on one hand, the museum helps the artist grow and express their creativity, while on the other hand, the artist brings new life to the museum.
The realization of the Museum Calls Artist project is made possible thanks to the contributions of the Directorate-General under the PAC – Plan for Contemporary Art (Law No. 29 of February 23, 2001, Art. 3), which was specifically created as a tool to fund the acquisition of contemporary artworks.
