Resilient Communities is the name of the project conceived by curator Alessandro Melis for the Italian Pavilion at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia (May 22 – November 21, 2021), and aims to place at the center of the exhibition, in all its dramatic complexity, the issue of climate change and the significant challenges it poses to architecture. Specifically, it aims to highlight how climate change is putting the resilience of urban, industrial, and agricultural systems to the test. The project, promoted by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture, is based on the belief that architecture must contribute significantly to improving the quality of life we lead and our health, providing appropriate responses to the epochal environmental and social changes currently underway.
The main objective of the Italian Pavilion is to prompt visitors to reflect in an unprecedented way on the resilience mechanisms of communities, a key focus for the recovery of a new form of interaction between urban space and productive territory, guided by the interdisciplinarity of skills and non-deterministic evolutionary logics, which are central elements during periods of transition.
In order to broaden the resonance, deepening and dissemination of the contents of the curatorial project, a rich calendar of events-panels in presence and digital for the duration of the event that can be consulted and followed on the website of the Italian Pavilion.
