Giulia Oglialoro and Stefano Pane are the winners of two Scholarships for research on Contemporary photographic culture 2020, promoted and supported by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with SISF - Società Italiana per lo Studio della Fotografia.

The two grants are awarded for the following reasons:

  • Giulia Oglialoro: for the project’s relevance to the study of contemporary scenarios; for the originality and refinement of thought with which she identifies the field of investigation, reflecting on expressive as well as ethic-philosophical issues of great relevance and relevance. The theme proposed - the reading of some artists’s work that use images produced with technological automatisms by security devices - offers a contribution to the deepening of studies in the field of media science.
  • Stefano Pane: for the relevance of the theme in the history of contemporary photographic culture and for the attention to the aspects of independent publishing that are not so much explored, considering the photographic book - from the creative moment to the production and distribution phase - as a privileged territory of linguistic and narrative research. The project has a good methodological framework and a strong potential for involvement of both institutional and independent realities.

Both projects, in addition to meeting the requirements and objectives of the call, ensure adequate elements of feasibility.

Evaluation Committee: Alida Moltedo (member nominated by DGCC), Edoardo Bonaspetti (member nominated by DGCC), Monica Maffioli (member nominated by SISF), Lucia Miodini (member nominated by SISF), Fabiola Naldi (Professor at the University of Bologna, member designated by mutual agreement between the Parties).

The Commission - in comparison with the 134 applications received (of which 120 met the requirements of the call and were accepted for the selection procedure) - positively records the significant participation of candidates from different cultural and professional backgrounds. The project is also attracting a considerable amount of interest.
