To encourage young people to study contemporary photography, a competition is launched to win a scholarship on contemporary photographic culture worth € 12,000.00. Born from a collaboration between the DGAAP (former acronym of the current Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture) and the SISF - Società Italiana per lo Studio della Fotografia, the call is in its first edition and aims to contribute to professional specialization in the field of photographic culture.
The scholarship lasts for one year, for the period 2016-2017. The grant winner may carry out research in the locations and ways he or she deems most appropriate, as detailed in the project.
The grant is for a young scholar who has the following qualifications: not over 35 years of age (at the date of expiry of the call); who has obtain (by the date of expiry of the call) at least a Master’s degree in an Italian university or equivalent institutes; who presents an unpublished research project on contemporary photographic culture (from 1960 to today); who does not simultaneously benefit from other research grants or any other scholarships in any capacity conferred, except for those that are provided for the integration of stays abroad.
The scholarship holder is chosen by a committee of five members, two of whom are appointed by DGAAP, two by SISF and one university professor chosen by mutual agreement between the two parties. The scholarship holder is selected on the basis of his or her curriculum vitae and his or her research project, based on its relevance and originality in the context of Italian photographic culture.
