The Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture launches an investigative program related to the landscape of forms, declinations, and fields of Urban Creativity in Italy, with specific reference to street art, muralism, and graffiti, in order to create an initial mapping of the current situation in this area. The program has an exploratory and informative value. The investigation is carried out in collaboration with Inward – National Observatory on Urban Creativity, with which an agreement was signed in April 2020 (with an integration in March 2021).

The enhancement of contemporary art in public spaces, also in terms of urban regeneration, is one of the institutional tasks assigned to the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity. The program builds upon what has already been achieved by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity with the first survey of the outdoor contemporary artwork heritage, which led to the publication of the "Art in Public Spaces" section within the Places of Contemporary Art platform.

The project Urban Creativity in Italy aims to contribute to exploring the theme of urban creativity in our country and to expand knowledge on the subject by producing a comprehensive and multi-faceted scientific research with exploratory intents, examining it from various perspectives (historical-artistic, socio-cultural, regulatory, etc.).
