In April 2020 (with an integration in March 2021), the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture signed an initial agreement with Inward – National Observatory on Urban Creativity to conduct an in-depth survey on what is defined – with a single summarizing expression – as "urban creativity," referring to the combination of the three distinct visual and performative cultures of graffiti writing, street art, and new muralism.
The project aligns with the institutional tasks assigned to the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity, including the enhancement of contemporary art in public spaces – also in terms of urban regeneration – leading to the publication in 2020 of the "Art in Public Spaces" section within the Places of Contemporary Art platform and the realization of the research project Art and Public Space, carried out between 2021 and 2023, consisting of three consecutive and interconnected actions: Research, Sharing, and Dissemination.
A new agreement with Inward – National Observatory on Urban Creativity, signed in 2023, leads to the realization of an initial meeting dedicated to the topic. This marks the beginning of a new path of dialogue both with artists and with other institutions interested in the subject.
